One of our core activities taking place alongside the exhibition this year is the implementation of our education and outreach programme, carried out in conjunction with key Gloucestershire arts, education, and public service organisations. We aim to inspire and inform all of those who visit, and present work that people from the surrounding area may not normally have easy access to. The Education programme is supported by the Arts Council South West.
The programme will include a series of workshops for children and young people, a symposium for local artists, an activity day for individuals with disabilities, and a master class for graduate students from Gloucestershire University. This will be an excellent opportunity for skill sharing and networking, and for people to discover new artists and explore contemporary practices of exhibition and display.
School visits currently taking place include Tewkesbury School, who are doing a artist’s book follow-up project, and Church Down School. ArtShape, an organisation helping adults with personal and professional artistic development, particularly those facing barriers to participation, will be visiting in mid October, and using this as inspiration for the creation of their own artwork.
Reconstruction Education Day: Sunday 2 November 2008
Reconstruction #3 presents a day at Sudeley Castle discussing the exhibition, The Artist’s Playground. The day will commence with two artists’ talks by Richard Woods and Henry Krokatsis, discussing their process and practice and how the grounds of Sudeley Castle affected it. The day will also include a question and answer session with the artists and will analyze among other things how the historical setting has challenged the context of sculpture by displaying it beyond the ‘white cube’ and how parenthetically similar exhibitions will continue to challenge artists. The day will continue with a reading from a paper by Carolyn Black, voicing her insights into sculpture in this expanded field, as well as, a guest speaker who will debate the pros and cons of contemporary art being influenced and influencing its settings.
These events will also coincide with Graduate programmes, including Goldsmiths, University of Gloucestershire, Ruskin, and others. These will provide students studying art with a deeper understanding of the process of creating an exhibition such as Reconstruction. These events are all available to the general public.
The events are free and open to the public. To make a booking please contact Lorna Trupec: Trupec@mac.com
